High-frequency broadband laser phase noise cancellation using a delay line

چکیده

Laser phase noise remains a limiting factor in many experimental settings, including metrology, time-keeping, as well quantum optics. Hitherto this issue was addressed at low frequencies ranging from below 1 Hz to maximally 100 kHz. However, wide range of experiments, such as, e.g., those involving nanomechanical membrane resonators, are highly sensitive higher the kHz 10 MHz, resonators. Here we employ fiber-loop delay line interferometer optimized cancel laser around 1.5 MHz. We achieve reduction 300 kHz-wide bands with peak more than dB desired frequencies, reaching less ?160 dB(rad 2 /Hz) Ti:Al O 3 laser. These results provide convenient technique deep ground-state cooling mechanical motion.

Broadband phase noise suppression in a Yb-fiber frequency comb.

We report a simple technique to suppress high-frequency phase noise of a Yb-based fiber optical frequency comb using an active intensity noise servo. Out-of-loop measurements of the phase noise using an optical heterodyne beat with a cw laser show suppression of phase noise by ≥7 dB out to Fourier frequencies of 100 kHz with a unity-gain crossing of ∼700 kHz. These results are enabled by the st...

Ultra low frequency noise laser by locking to an optical fiber delay line

We report the frequency stabilization of an erbium-doped fiber distributedfeedback laser using an all-fiber based Michelson interferometer of large arm imbalance. The interferometer uses a 1 km SMF-28 optical fiber spool and an acousto optic modulator allowing heterodyne detection. The frequency noise power spectral density is reduced by more than 40 dB for Fourier frequencies ranging from 1 Hz...

Precisely controllable broadband frequency sweeps using a semiconductor laser in an optoelectronic phase-lock loop

We demonstrate the generation of wideband frequency sweeps using a semiconductor laser in an optoelectronic phase-lock loop. The rate of the optical frequency sweep is locked to and determined by the frequency of a reference electronic signal, leading to an agile, high coherence sweptfrequency source for laser ranging and 3-D imaging applications. Using a reference signal of constant frequency,...

Passive phase noise cancellation scheme.

We introduce a new method for reducing phase noise in oscillators, thereby improving their frequency precision. The noise reduction is realized by a passive device consisting of a pair of coupled nonlinear resonating elements that are driven parametrically by the output of a conventional oscillator at a frequency close to the sum of the linear mode frequencies. Above the threshold for parametri...
